Science Week

Hello,

A wonderful week of science. We have been learning about the human body and naming internal and external parts of the body. We looked at lungs and ribs, the brain, our bladder and we also learnt that our heart is about the size of our fist.

We used our senses to hear and see things as well as taste different things that were sweet, salty and sour. We felt different things and described them and we had some smelling pots. Some things smelt lovely and fresh like the lemon and mint, some other things smelt quite strong, like the coffee.

In science we also used our DT skills to make our very own reptiles. We made these just using card squares and they were amazing. Some had long legs, some had short legs, others had long bodies, some had baby reptiles! They were all fantastic and we had a great time making them.

In Maths this week we have been looking at number patterns, 2's, 5's and 10's. We are all experts at counting in 10's to 100 and back again but we are still practising our 2's and 5's. We have used number lines, 100 squares, coins, diennes and other maths manipulatives to help us.

We have been hard at work practising our year 1 play, Eddie the Penguin saves the world. Thank you so much for all the costumes that have come in - we had a dress rehearsal today and all the children looked great. We can't wait for you to see it next week.

In Dance we used scarves to create our own dances listening to different styles of music. We thought about how the music made us feel and how we could move our bodies in time to the music.

Unfortunately our photocopier is not working at the moment, so we have been unable to print off the home learning stickers. The home learning is to 'choose a country to research, record facts in your own way'.

This week our star of the week is Ryley for looking after himself and other children.

Plop, our learning owl is flying home Eadie for taking responsibility learning her lines and being fantastic in the rehearsals.

Reminders:
We are performing Eddie and the Penguin on Tuesday 20th March at 14:15.
Parent consultations are taking place on Wednesday 21st March and Thursday 22nd March.

We hope you have a lovely weekend

Love Oak Class

  1. I liked it when we counted in tens. I really liked everybody’s reptiles in science too. I can’t wait for our play soon.
