Work shadowing week

Hello,

Firstly, thank you to those of you who joined us this week in Oak class. We really enjoyed sharing our learning with you, and appreciate you taking time out to be with us.

We have done a lot of learning this week!
In English we have been thinking about how adjectives or describing words can help make our writing more exciting and how it helps us describe different things in detail. We wrote descriptive words and sentences about different locations.
At the end of the week, we used our adjectives to then write a poem, using our adjectives. There have been some fantastic poems, some of them even rhyme!

In Maths we have looked at length using rulers and meter sticks. We have explored weight and tried to find things that weighed 10 cubes. We also did an experiment today with 3 cars. We had to test the cars to see if the blue car was the fastest, we love it! Sometime the blue car won the race, but sometimes it did not.

In science this week we have looked at living and non-living things and sorted them into a table. Today we learnt about different types of animals and wrote a fact about them. We learnt about; mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

During Topic this week we thought about where we live, our village, our county, our country and our continent. We then looked at the UK and the different parts of the UK; England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. We had a map and put the flags in the right places.

What a busy week!

This week Plop will be flying home with Sienna for always persevering and trying her best in every subject.Well done Sienna.
This weeks star award is going to Ruby for being very sensible during work shadowing, showing what a good role model is. Well done Ruby.

Our Orange Week!

Hello,

This week our learning has been around the colour orange.

Some of the things we have really enjoyed have been:

  • Learning a song - how to spell orange
  • Making our own shades of orange
  • Making fish, foxes and giraffes out of handprints
  • Bringing in orange things from home
  • Painting and printing with oranges
  • Our special orange treat! (because we got our 30th marble!)
  • We loved doing a flower experiment - putting food colouring in the water and watching to see if the flowers change colour.
In English we have been making lists and poems. We will be continuing with poetry next week. We also wrote a letter to the orange crayon from the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. We really liked the story!

In Maths we have been finding patterns and different combinations. We found out how many different combinations we could make with a flag. We also read a story 'Orange, pear, apple bear' and thought of all the different combinations we could think of.

This week we started our own phonics groups. Some of us go into Beech class, some of us go into the garden room and some of us stay in Oak class.

In Gym this week we have been doing rolls, this week was an egg roll! We really enjoyed practising these on the mats in the hall.

We have also enjoyed our assemblies this week, we had a special visitor who did some fun activities with us.

This weeks star award has gone to Ethan for always being a good listener. Well done Ethan!

Plop, our learning owl is flying home with Brooke, because Brooke has persevered and has done some amazing writing. Well done Brooke!

A week of Stickman and stories...

Hello,

Another lovely week in Oak class.

This week Oak class have been fantastic and lots of other teachers have said how sensible and kind Oak class are.

All week in Oak we have been looking at the story of 'Stickman'. We ordered the story, created story plans, acted the story out and then wrote a recount of the story. We did our best handwriting and tried to remember all the parts of the story.

We have also been doing some computing. In computing we have learnt a new technical word; algorithm. We know that this word means 'a set of instructions'. We turned into beebots and instructed our friends around an obstacle course with the instructions; forwards, backwards, turn left or turn right. We thought this was really fun!

In Dance today we read the story 'Giraffes can't dance' we then did a strictly come dancing warm up and moved around the hall like giraffes. We thought about our movements and how we would feel as a giraffe.

Oak class have been solving lots of Maths problems this week. We have been given some number problems and had to find out what the missing number was. We have been using number lines to help us.

On Thursday at snack time, we found something rather strange...words written on our bananas! We read the words before eating our bananas, some words were real words and some were nonsense words.

We have all been artists and using a mirror, we drew our self portraits just using pencils. They were brilliant!

Today we had a go at using some story stones. They have lots of different pictures on and give us ideas to write about. We came up with some wonderfully imaginative stories, some of us challenging ourselves to write more than one page, some of us really working on our presentation, all of us writing amazing stories.

Today's star award goes to Dilhan for being so sensible and managing problems well. Well done Dilhan.
Plop, our learning owl, would love to spend the weekend with James who did some fantastic writing, challenging himself, persevering and being independent. Well done James!

Next week is colour week, in Oak class our colour is orange.
Workshadowing starts Tuesday 23rd  January until Friday 26th January - sign up sheets in classroom.

Have a lovely weekend,

Happy New Year!

Hello and Happy New Year!

It has been a short but busy week this week. We have been getting back into our routine and started with sharing what we did over the Christmas break and stretching out with some yoga. We then wrote about what we did over the break, and my goodness how busy we all have been!

Plop also had a good Christmas at Mrs Carey's house, nesting in the Christmas tree, playing with her bunny and having two baths! Plop is staying at school this weekend but is looking forward to going home with somebody new next Friday.

Today we have been doing lots of Maths, remembering some of the things we learnt before the half term. We played some Maths games, solved lots of Maths problems and made some 3D shapes out of construction.

Our new topic this term is 'Colours of the World'. We are very excited to see what learning comes out of this new topic.

Reminders:
We will be doing PE on Monday, so please remember your PE kits next week.
The last Game On session will be next Thursday 11th.

We hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend,

Love Oak Class
