Little Red Riding Hood came to visit ...

Hello,

This week there has been a lot of excitement in Oak class!

We are still looking at traditional tales, and this week we have been thinking about different characters - we even had a visit from Little Red Riding Hood (Florence!) who answered some of our fantastic questions like;

"Why do you wash your coat?" "I don't actually have a washing machine, I was my coat in the river!"
and
"Can you do a back flip?!" "No, I'm not very good at that!"

Thank you very much to Dilhan's Mum, who came in to share the story of Farmer Duck in Russian - we loved it!

In Maths we looked at patterns in numbers on some dice as well as in a tens frame. We grouped numbers together to see the number without having to count the dots.

As always, we have been guided reading, every day - we have had different activities during guided reading, designing a new gingerbread man and sequencing stories as well as reading to each other.

In RE this week, we looked at Harvest. We have our harvest assembly next week on Friday, we have been practising a song which we love! Cauliflowers fluffy, and cabbages green...
For our home learning, we can also decorate an envelope in a harvest theme to bring in with our donation for the charity that the school councils chose.

As it is the schools 50th Birthday next week - we have been looking at old photos of the school and writing about the differences we saw. They had wooden chair, we have plastic chairs. They didn't have computers, we have computers. They didn't have a carpet, we have a carpet.
On Monday we will be celebrating the schools birthday by having a birthday focus for English and making party hats, playing games and maybe even sharing a special treat!
The school will be open from 7-8:30 for our birthday celebration and our partnership hour. It would be lovely to see you there.

Today we also received our 10th marble, which means we can have a treat next week. We had a vote on what we would like to do, and the winning vote was to bring in our own toy (or book) on Friday next week. It can be any toy, but nothing electric (no tablets, Nintendo DS etc) which we will be able to play with in the afternoon.

Well done to Daniel who has taken Plop home this weekend for his Year One Independence and well done to Florence who received the star award this week for answering all of our question in character as Little Red Riding Hood.

Have a lovely weekend!

Our School Trip

What a busy week!

This week we have been looking at the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs'. We listened to the story and acted it out with puppets in small groups. We also heard a different version of the story...'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig'. It was very funny.

In Maths we have been learning about positions and ordering things into first, second, third etc. We also looked at some tall buildings and spoke about the ground floor, first floor and so on.

We have all been musicians this week, and have been playing together, with different instruments along to a rap of the 'Three Little Pigs'. We love this rap!!

The most exciting part of our week has got to be the trip! On Thursday we went to the Chiltern Open Air Museum. We spent time reading the story of the 'Three Little Pigs' and then building houses for them out of straw, sticks and bricks. We worked together to make some fantastic houses.
On the trees we also made some clay scary faces to try an scare the big bad wolf away - some very scary and creative faces were made, all very artistic.
We also spotted some sheep, and enjoyed the woods and of course lunch was very exciting too!

This week our learning owl Plop has gone home with Bibi for being independent and always following instructions so well. Well done Bibi, we hope you and Plop enjoy the weekend together.

The star award this week has gone to Sienna for being so sensible on the trip and a good role model. Well done Sienna.

Tonight is film night - we hope to see you there.

Have a lovely weekend,

Our First Blog!

Hello,

This is our first blog in Oak Class! We are writing the blog together.

In Science this week we have been looking at materials and sorting them into different groups.

Today we went outside for Games - we practised ball skills in partners and felt our hearts get quicker!

In RE we brought in our favourite book, and drew a picture of it. We are very good artists!

We all did some lovely writing about the story 'The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark'. In the end, Plop thought dark was SUPER!

We also did some computing and we all practised using our very own log on's.

This week in learning through play we have; made models, played with the small world and with our friends in the role play and much more.

This weeks star award has gone to Eadie for being brave and calming down. Well done Eadie.

This week our learning owl, Plop, is going home with Ryley for doing some fantastic listening and learning. Well done Ryley.

Have a lovely weekend!
