Welcome back to a lovely week!

Hello,

What a lovely first week back. We have been very busy.

We have seen some amazing work this week in English. We have all been authors. After reading lots of Katie Morag stories, we made a story plan and created our own Katie Morag story. There were some amazing adventures that Katie went on and the most fantastic work was produced by all children showing great persevering skills.

In Maths we have been working on word problems, both addition and subtraction. We read the question and thought about what the important information was. We then wrote the number sentence and also use jottings (dots) to help us work out the answer.
We also explored addition with dominoes and recorded information in pairs, we loved this activity!

In Topic we have been learning all about Poland, we learnt the capital city is Warsaw, we know that they money they use is called zloty and Benjamin helped us pronounce 'yes' which is 'tak' and 'no' which is 'nie'. We also tried a Polish snack called paluszki which are like pretzel sticks. They were yummy!

In PE we were practising our chest pass, our bounce pass and our over head pass with a partner. Some of us still do not have a PE kit in school, please remember this next week as we do PE every Monday and Friday.

This afternoon we have welcomed a new member of Oak class. We are very happy to have Barney in our class and look forward to him starting on Monday.

This week Plop has been so impressed with the amazing writing that has been happening in Oak class and he was very happy to see that Jake has really persevered and improved his writing. Well done Jake.
The star award this week is going to someone that shows that he is a good friend by supporting others. Well done Cai.

Reminders:
Next week is Book Week so you can bring in your favourite book from home to keep in school all week.
On Friday next week, you can bring in a cushion from home as we are going to be reading as a whole school in the hall.
There is no art club next week, this will resume as normal the week after.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Love Oak Class

Our netball week!

Hello,

We have had a very energetic week in Oak class!

On Thursday we had a netball workshop where we worked on different ball skills. We are now experts in chest passes, over head passes and bounce passes. We had a great time with the game on coaches.

On Tuesday is was safer internet day. We thought about how to keep safe on the internet and what to do if we needed help. We also learnt a song to help us keep safe.
We also thought about what kind words and unkind words do. We did an experiment with two apples, we were kind to one apple, and not kind to another. When we cut the apple open, the one that we were kind to looked lovely on the inside and the one we were unkind to was bashed and bruised on the inside.

Oak class have been working hard on their presentation in English this week.  We are reading Katie Morag and writing descriptive sentences, but we are taking our time, not rushing and we are using our best presentation. Some fantastic work has been produced!

In Maths this week, we have been doing subtraction sums. There are lots of different ways you can say - for example; minus, take away, less, fewer than, subtract. We used this to complete some subtraction sums in Maths, some more fantastic work that Oak Class produced!

In celebration assembly we got Paddington this week for the best attendance! Well done Oak class!

Plop is having a much needed rest over half term. However the star award this week is going to Miley for being brave and doing well when facing a challenge.

We hope you have a lovely half term, enjoy the break and get lots of rest.

Love Oak Class

Number Day!

Hello,

There are lots of things we would like to tell you about this week!

We have been reading and exploring Katie Morag books in English this week, we have been getting to know the characters making predictions about the story. We will be continuing with Katie Morag next week.

We also found out in Topic where Katie Morag comes from. An Island off the coast of Scotland called the Isle of Struay (fictional) but it is filmed on the Isle of Cole which is also off the coast of Scotland. We pretended we went for s trip and made postcards about the Island.

It has been number day today, and all week we have been focusing on numbers up to 20. We have been doing numbers bonds and exploring the 100 square. Today for number day we all had to buy a special snack (gingerbread man) and find the right change. We then looked at all of the numbers on our clothes and made a number line. Our number line went from 1 - 2030!
We also had a class discussion about money, why it's important and why we need it.

In computing we have been continuing with our beebots and inputting algorithms, we all had a go and chased a stone around a map. It was great!

On Thursday, we were lucky enough to take part in the dancing stars workshop. We loved it, especially the warm up!

Thank you to the Mum's that helped with cooking this week - we had fun and made some delicious fajita pizzas.

This weeks star award is going to Noah B for being a good listener, always doing the right thing and having a good attitude. Well done Noah!

This week Plop our learning owl is flying home with Luca. Luca has shown some fantastic independent work and persevered with his writing. Well done Luca!

Reminders:
School finishes at the usual time of 3:15pm on Friday 9th February.

We hope to see some of you at the disco tonight. Have a lovely weekend.
