Cultural Week

Hello,

What an amazing cultural week we've had!

It has been a busy but very exciting week.

In English this week we have been on Safari and made a list of the animals we could see. We have also been labelling photos and writing captions.

In Maths we have made a bar graph of animals - looking at the most and the least and the most amount of animals. We also had to create a pen for a giraffe with only 10 sticks - we came up with lots of ideas on how to make the biggest pen possible with only 10 sticks and we have also measured an elephant!

In Topic we have been learning information about Kenya and we also built our very own African village inspired by the South African houses 'Ndbele Houses'. They are covered in geometric patterns and lots of colours.

We have loved exploring Google Earth and have been able to find Africa on the map as well as Kenya.

In our own time we have made African bracelets, necklaces, Kenyan flags, masks, playing in our African village role play and drawing some lovely African pictures.

We were also very lucky as we had an African dance workshop - we learnt some great moves and all really enjoyed ourselves. In the afternoon we then practised our drumming skills on some African drums.

Today has been so lovely - a HUGE thank you to Jake's Mum who cooked us all a Kenyan feast - we all tried something and decided that Jake's Mum was an amazing cook! We all loved the Kenyan doughnuts, the beans and the ugali - in fact a few of the children want a Kenyan snack every day! Thank you as well for coming in to see us in your gorgeous outfit and answering our questions.
We were all wearing our own clothes this week and bringing in money for the toilet twinning organisation that helps to provide toilets to those without in Africa, so thank you for your donations.

In assembly we got Paddington this week for the best attendance as well as the golden plug for saving electricity.

Autumn challenge is going home - your challenge is to fill a match box with various different items.

We hope you all have a lovely half term and we hope you have some time to relax ready for a busy Christmas term ahead! We look forward to seeing you again on Monday 30th October.

Love

Oak Class

Reminders:
There is NO GAME ON on Thursday 2nd November
On Friday 3rd November it is non-uniform day - we will be wearing  bright colours to raise awareness for 'Glow Day' and road safety.
