Little Red Riding Hood came to visit ...

Hello,

This week there has been a lot of excitement in Oak class!

We are still looking at traditional tales, and this week we have been thinking about different characters - we even had a visit from Little Red Riding Hood (Florence!) who answered some of our fantastic questions like;

"Why do you wash your coat?" "I don't actually have a washing machine, I was my coat in the river!"
and
"Can you do a back flip?!" "No, I'm not very good at that!"

Thank you very much to Dilhan's Mum, who came in to share the story of Farmer Duck in Russian - we loved it!

In Maths we looked at patterns in numbers on some dice as well as in a tens frame. We grouped numbers together to see the number without having to count the dots.

As always, we have been guided reading, every day - we have had different activities during guided reading, designing a new gingerbread man and sequencing stories as well as reading to each other.

In RE this week, we looked at Harvest. We have our harvest assembly next week on Friday, we have been practising a song which we love! Cauliflowers fluffy, and cabbages green...
For our home learning, we can also decorate an envelope in a harvest theme to bring in with our donation for the charity that the school councils chose.

As it is the schools 50th Birthday next week - we have been looking at old photos of the school and writing about the differences we saw. They had wooden chair, we have plastic chairs. They didn't have computers, we have computers. They didn't have a carpet, we have a carpet.
On Monday we will be celebrating the schools birthday by having a birthday focus for English and making party hats, playing games and maybe even sharing a special treat!
The school will be open from 7-8:30 for our birthday celebration and our partnership hour. It would be lovely to see you there.

Today we also received our 10th marble, which means we can have a treat next week. We had a vote on what we would like to do, and the winning vote was to bring in our own toy (or book) on Friday next week. It can be any toy, but nothing electric (no tablets, Nintendo DS etc) which we will be able to play with in the afternoon.

Well done to Daniel who has taken Plop home this weekend for his Year One Independence and well done to Florence who received the star award this week for answering all of our question in character as Little Red Riding Hood.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I really liked it when Dilhan's mum read the story in Russian and when Little Red Riding Hood visited us. I was very excited about getting our 10th marble and can't wait for our treat on Friday. I also can't wait for Monday when our school is 50 years old. I'm also looking forward to Harvest Festival - it's my favourite thing! Ruby xxx
