It was on a starry night...

Hello,

It was so lovely to see so many grown ups this morning to share our fantastic learning. Every child in Oak class is so proud of their learning and they have all worked so hard, well done!

We have had a lovely week. After the snow day we have managed to fit 5 days in to 4! We have been doing lots of creative writing. We watched the snowman and created our own snow creatures that went on adventures, some of our creatures came alive at night, some came alive only when it snowed, or only when there was a rainbow.
We also did another piece of creative writing. We were each given a Christmas inspired picture and wrote a story just by looking at the picture. Some of us travelled to the North Pole, some of us were actually elves and some of us spotted something magical out of our windows! Some really fantastic and creative work has been happening this week.

In Maths we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have looked at how many faces each shape has and how many vertices they have. We have sorted the shapes and described them using mathematical language.

An exciting week full of Christmas activities - we have all made special Christmas hats and cards as well as making some lovely snowflakes and artwork. We wore our hats to our Christmas lunch, which was delicious. We sat down as a whole school, listened to Christmas songs and had a feast!

On Thursday afternoon, we had a pantomime come into school. It was the story of Aladdin. It was so funny and we all joined in and had a great time.

Star award this week goes to Jack for being a very caring friend, well done Jack.

Plop our learning owl goes to Ruby this week for being more independent with her learning, well done Ruby.

Well done Oak class for an amazing first term.

School finishes on Tuesday 19th December at 1:30pm.

Have a lovely weekend,

Oak Class x

Stick man and Woodlands

Hello,

What a busy week!

This week has been a busy Maths week - we have looked at doubling numbers and halving numbers as well as odd and even numbers. We talked about how on some streets, there are odd numbers on one side and even numbers on the other side. We also looked at how even numbers can be shared and odd numbers can't. We will be looking at this again in the new year.

In English we have been reading lots of Julia Donaldson books, looking for repeated phrases. We have looked at the Stick man, The Smartest Giant in Town, The Gruffalo, Tiddler and lots more. We wrote our own repeating phrase too!

On Tuesday we spent the morning at Woodlands - this was a lovely session. We began by reading Stick Man and then made our own stick men and women and also wrapped different coloured wool around pine cones, they all look fab!

In PSHE we have been thinking about what makes a good friend? We shared ideas and came up with some lovely thoughts 'Playing with each other', 'Looking after them when they get hurt' 'Respecting each other' and 'Taking turns'.

The post box has gone up in the hall for any Christmas cards the children would like to send to their friends. We have also continued our class advent calendar - which we all love!
We have been getting in the Christmas spirit and singing some Christmas songs, which we would love to share with you next Friday morning (15th December). If you come in with your child at drop off, you can have a look at some of their work and hear a few songs, the sharing will last until around 9:15am. This is also Christmas jumper day!

This weeks home learning is to go on a shape walk - we will be looking at shape next week in Maths.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Love Oak Class

It was on a starry night...

Hello,

Another fantastic week! We all had lots of ideas about what we would like to put on the blog this week.

Most of us wanted to tell you all about the work we have done on stars this week. We have written poems about stars, which were amazing! We also wrote in special handwriting pens and some of our poems are up on display. We have also all done a starry night picture inspired by Van Gogh, they are on display with our poems so all the children in Oak class either have a poem or a picture up on our new brilliant display.

In Maths this week, Oak class have been learning about tens and ones. We looked at numbers above 10 and split the number into tens and ones, for example 19 has 1 ten and 9 ones. Oak class almost made Mrs Carey fall off her chairs when they told her that 43 had 4 tens and 3 ones! Amazing Maths work this week.

Today we were all very excited that today was the first of December - the first day we opened our class advent calendar! Also, we all loved putting a decoration on the school Christmas tree today. It really is starting to feel a lot like Christmas! We even have a gorgeous role play, which is a Christmas Gingerbread house. Today Oak class choir also had a Christmas sing song!

This week the star award has gone to George C for always being a kind friend, well done George!
And our learning owl has gone to Isabelle for fantastic independent work, well done Isabelle!

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Love Oak Class
